UT2K3 Demo OUT!

Postby Warren » Sep 15, 2002 @ 5:53pm

You're building a computer VI?

Well, as for speakers, I don't know, I may go with cheaper speakers with a Creative Labs Audigy 5.1 Live! Value card, because I don't want that good of a sound, because I can't play it loud in my house. I'd be happy with a 3 speaker (includes subwoofer) system. The Creative 5.1 5300 has 5 tweeters! I don't even know where I can put that many!

As for a keyboard, I like this , from http://www.national-tech.com/catalog/keyboards.htm. Only $8!!

And what about this ? It's painted by Alienware for $60, pretty expensive, but it has 5 buttons which I like. The Microsoft Optical Blue mouse has 3 buttons for $28. We'll see.

Is there anyone that sells keyboards without the Windows keys? I know there's a program to kill it in Windows, but it has to be open all the time, and it disables it's use in games too.

Loki is obviously a diehard CS fan. I've been playing CS since June of 1999 (when it came out). I am a mapper for FPS games, and I can tell you from experience, all the restrinctions of the Half-Life engine are gone in the newer engines, even the Quake 3 engine is far better for geometry. And are you really saying that UT2K3 has worse graphics than HL?!? A character in UT2K3 has like over 1000 polygons, in HL, a character would have 20-50. HL can't nearly even support curved surfaces! The essence of realism! And saying the UT2K3 is the same as UT? Please, pull yourself out of that hole on Mars.

Does anyone here have any suggestions for a CPU cooler for an AMD 2200+? And is a shim really a good idea? What about thermal epoxy?

I like the Asus A7V333 motherboard so far, they have USB 2.0, 1394, and are designed for AMDs. But they are so

[edit]Yeah, look at this , I think the A7V333 is the best for what I need, 4 USB ports (includes 2 USB 2.0), serial, parallel, 1394 (optional, I won't get it if I get the sound card with it), and a lot of other stuff for AMD. But it's poopy brown. I like the Creative Labs sound card, the entire board is jey black.

Oh, and I have a question. I have cable Internet. When I get my computer, I need to make a network with my existing one. I would prefer a wireless network. Do I need to get a network card for my computer? What else? A router? Wireless network transfer thingies?

Halflife? Good graphics? This isn't 1999 here, this is 2002. Valve is still milking away the HL engine, and CS is filled with script b0t hax0ring kiddies. Not to mention the gameplay is bland, but I can rant on.

I don't see decent looking water in HL, or how about grass. Extensive outdoor levels? Nah. What about the physics system, with a ragdoll system in place? No chance in hell. Creative weapons? More in UT2K3 than Half-Life and CS combined. And the almighty gameplay, UT plays like a solid arcadish FPS, while CS is sluggish.

Note, I played CS from beta 1 to beta 7, and tried out the latest versions when I play with friends rarely.

It's a shame, Half-Life has some really cool mods, but no one ever bother with them because of the cesspool that is Counter-Strike. Science & Industry was an insanely fun mod, at least the first beta I played.

Valve will have to stop milking HL eventually. It's been way too long already.
