Here a good article writen by a linguist:

Here another question I have: Why do you think english has become the international language? Here my answer for now: This is one of the easyest language to learn. Don't need to know a lot of words to be undestand, and phrases structure are pretty simple. I learn my english by playing RPGs ^_^ Even now if my english is not really good, I'm sure you are able to understand :P[/quote]

I just learned today in English class (from an article we had to read) that 70 million (1/4) of Americans can't read or write well. 40 million of those 70 million can't read or write AT ALL. The other 30 million are just really bad at it. It said that the US is the worst 1st world country with literacy because of a "careless education program, passing illiterate children along without a care". I just thought it was funny, so I brought it up. Oh, and really stupidly, the article blamed it on the Internet...yeah, you don't READ the Internet~~~ Jeez, if anything the Internet OBVIOUSLY encourages reading. Look at what you're doing RIGHT NOW, you're reading this. Therefore, the Internet is making you literate.

Sandmann, what are you talking about? Europe is the only place where you can "go to the local marketplace". They have bakers, fruit stands, chocolate shops! We have big corporate supermarkets. It's just more cultural there. Like refractor said, about feeling safe in a city. If you're in Boston after dark, you're screwed. There's rapes on the streets of Boston 1 out of every 3 days. The police give out whistles to women to use at night time. Do you think people are attacked, mugged, or murdered in the streets of Paris after dark?! NO! That's when the life happens. I mean, after dark, what place is safer and livelier, Barcelono, Spain, or Vancouver, Canada? My point is, don't be close-minded about the world, don't isolate yourself, how can you say "Fuck Europe, I hate it there"? Don't get me wrong, there are cultural safe lively US cities, like San Francisco.

Uh I can say "Fuck Europe, I hate it" cuz I do hate it. I don't like the cultures there. I'm not being closedminded, I've been there.

And about being safe, noticed I said I wanted to live in MILWAUKEE, ie a very safe city (at least in the suburbs). I may be wrong but instinct (and my mom telling me to button up my wallet pocket) tells me that Paris is not as safe as you believe...
