Just say NO to MTV

Postby Warren » Oct 7, 2002 @ 12:02am

^-- True, look at the videos for MuDvAyNe - Dig, Slipknot - My Plage, Mushroomhead - Solitaire/Unraveling, and any System of a Down videos, they're mostly random than violent. Slipknot's video is a concert with random clips from the movie "Resident Evil". Mushroomhead's video is a desert thing with a Trojan horse in it...and MuDvAyNe's video for Dig (they also have a video for Death Blooms) is really cool, good special effects, but not violent. Now look at the videos for ANY Britney Spears video, Christia Agulari's new video, and other videos like Hot In Herre. They're...well...inappropriate for young children. I don't have anything against them , but I do disagree with the image they give of how "half black, half Latina girls in bikinis are simple objects". And Britney Spears...losing her virginity on every one of her videos. Now look at Korn - Thoughless video, yeah, a little violent, more emotionally sympathetic though, and a guy doing a hilariously huge puke at the end that makes people fly across the room :D. The only complaint I have about MTV is how they make it seem like there's no such thing as rock music. It's ALL rap and hip hop. All I ask is that, like, at music awards, don't such have a "rock" catergory, when they have rap, hip hop, pop, r&b, and indie catergories, that's just so unfair. What's the difference between hip hop, pop, and r&b? I don't know, but there's a difference between alternative rock and heavy metal, yet MTV puts them in the same class. Rock is not the underground of music, and rap is not the only type of "music". I'm just sick of how MTV makes it seem that way. Aaylia dies, the world stops, Dave Williams dies, just a filler for MTV News. And you know what? MTV used to have another channel, MTV X, where it would be all rock/metal videos, but you know what they did? THEY CHANGED IT TO MTV JAM!! ALL RAP VIDEOS! If there should be a petition to MTV, it should be about giving rock/metal music the attention it deserves.

They got rid of MTV-X for MTV Jams and MTV Hits, basically MTV 24 hours a day minus the shitty shows. Even MTV-2 is starting to show their stupid originals now :(

I can't stand "Real World". If those kids think that's the real world, their going to have a huge wake up call when they're done filming. In real life, you aren't given your own body guard (yes they have them), a house inside the newest hotel in Las Vegas, a job without an interview, and all that other happy horse ****. They should make a show called the real real world, and show what lifes really like. Waking up in a slummy apartment, going to a dead end job in a crappy town where no one gives a damned about you.

^-- Yeah...or they could put back on Celebrity Deathmatch!! YEEEAAAHHHH!!!!! They should also put on All Things Rock on an earlier time, not 1:00AM. I mean, they already have Direct Effect and Primetime Players to show all the stupid hip hop videos, why should they put the rock videos at the end when even stoned metalheads are asleep? And I am sick of Real World, Road Rules, and now they have FM Nation, another one of those shows. MTV needs something new, maybe like an MTV News show, instead of the commerical like shorts. And more Jackass, you can never have too much Jackass :D.

It's "entertainment" ... atleast it's supposed to be. I kidn of wanted that bookshelf from Real World Hawaii, it was cool and wavey. But I've never watched that show continually. Sometimes a friend has it on at a house so I pay attention to it.

Uhh, Warren, hip-hop sells better than rock. If you know what they say isn't true, why do you care?

I agree MTV is stupid, they don't even play music that much. I do like MTV2 though, that's the only TV I watch (besides sportscenter and football/basketball games).

And Cameron, The Real World doesn't claim to be some kind accurate representation of real life. It's just a clever name, and it actually gave birth to the reality TV show genre. Quite an ingenius idea if you ask me. It's just entertainment; yes, it is entertaining. And they have a perfect formula for it; put a black person lacking 'black identity' with a 'black activist', an 'innocent girl' with a 'slut', a 'country kid' with a 'big city' kid. It works! Conflicts abound, and honestly, no one would watch television that wasn't full of conflict and kids having a good time.

I am not a fan of MTV, but I respect it incredibly. I mean, look at it; it's a television station with a chokehold on an entire generation. Everyone knows what MTV is, what The Real World is, what TRL is. It was revolutionary when it came out, and has remained at the forefront of pop culture since then.

Yeah we don't have that annoying anti-pop culture. It's just as bad and elitist as the pop scene. Somehow some people think it makes them cooler if they don't watch MTV. Then they get on the fat chicks...

That's how it is at my school at least.
