You're just spitting out your teacher's litero-babel about those books.

They're stupid.

I liked Animal Farm; I haven't read 1984 though, although I've read a few other Orwell pieces (the hanging, and the elephant) and enjoyed them.

Did any of you see the new (relatively) Animal Farm movie? It's so funny :).

Porn, on TV, in Canada, for free? What?

What's stopping a terrorist network from setting up their own WiFi network? Pop a few APs in the back of the car, and they've got a wireless network. Set up some relays in other cars. All they need is one user connected to that WiFi with a 3G connection to a carrier and they're set... I don't see how open wifi is a national security threat. I see it more as a convenience for the common American/Canadian/British folk.

Maybe this homeland security agency thing is launching a new 802.11b national-network startup company and they want to get rid of some competition :)... Highly unlikely, but there's got to be a logical reasion that they're doing this...

Ah, I thought Orwell was British, I couldn't remember.

In History, we had to read this article on communism and capitalism, and I actually burned it, because it said "communism stops the people from having the basic right to think, while capitalism is a utopia of free will". Umm, no. The article went on and on horribly bashing communism, and even socialism, and romantisizing capitalism, saying that everyone in a capitalist state WILL be wealthy. The reality is that I suffer the bad side of capitalism every frickin' day, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. I can't get a freakin' job at my work because the big fat capitalist pigs at the top are so greedy that they refuse to hire me because they'd rather have $4,001,000 a year instead of $4,000,000. And yes, they do make $4 million a year ($2 million in salary and $2 million in bonuses that they give THEMSELVES). And they'll do anything to screw the people to have that vital extra penny in their bloated pockets! I'm not advocating communism, I'm just saying that there is no utopia, that every type of government and economic system has major flaws, and that the only thing to do is to pick the best of the bad. Oh well, GO ANARCHY! Well, I actually disagree with anarchy, we need some kind of order. Even pure democracy has flaws, because would you like to have to vote on EVERY single issue? No, but in a democratic republic, the people who vote for us can be (and often are...) corrupt. We're studying this in history now, about business in 1900, I really hate John D. Rockefeller, he would make $100,000,000 from Standard Oil, and pay his employees barely nothing, and pocket ALL the company profits.

Although I'll disagree with you can say that they are bad books, but you can't say that the aren't important. Their teachings, and stressed points are vital to understand in order to be an educated person.

Another example is Moby Dick is disliked by many who read it, its messages about human nature, and meaning are important to know.

For me I hated A Christmas Charol, but its points about greed, how to live can't denied.

An once again this isn't coming out of my english teacher's ass, and before you say, "Well guess what, I am denieing it, WHAT WHAT?, don't.

I don't understand why the rich think they need to be even more rich. That's simply beyond me.

The lessons may be important, but they can come from sources other than those books much easier.

8O .... HAHAHHAH! LMAO!

RICoder that was hilarious!

But NinthOption, RIC, I'm well off, I'm not poor. I think everyone in this forum is pretty well off, seeing as how it's a PocketPC forum. Being in that position I don't see why you would want more money. Once you reach a certain amount than any more is just pointless. I'm not 'bitching' against the essence of capitalism and working hard and earning what you get. I'm just saying it reaches a point where more money doesn't matter any more.

If I win the lottery than a good bit of it I'm donating to something or other, et cetera. I'm not going to go buy a Ferrari, that's stupid. Sure I'm going to live easily. but money is just money.

WOW! People are argeeing with me! It just feels so wierd...

RICoder, the Switzerland this was a joke...:?

As Moose said, which I completely agree with, once you make a certain amount of people, why screw everyone else to get a tiny bit more? All the Enron executives...it's obviously human nature to do this, but I also don't understand why. In English, we just read a short story, "John Walker and the Devil", and it was about this poor guy John Walker who makes a deal with the devil, that if the devil gives him this big treasure thing of money, that Walker would open a bank in Boston (this was 1900ish), and would foreclose as many morgages, and screw as many people as possible for person gain. He became filthy rich, but in the end, went to hell. This simply shows that there must be some kind of human nature to screw people for personal gain, even when the necessity for gain is nonexistant.

I've always wanted to read Fahrenheit 451, never had a chance to though.

[edit] Civil liberties! That's what the nazi clubs at school use to justify the encarving swastikas in the walls! Civil liberty means you have all the freedom you want, but I think there must be a limit, especially on derogatory actions, like public display of racism.
