Cars are hobbies, adding an exhaust is like adding a drive to a computer, it's no stupid penal thing.

Moose, at redline shifting, do you double clutch? I do, at first, I'd just shift though, and it could grind, but double clutching is so smooth and nice, it takes a while though.

When I first got my car I experimented with double clutching... it is nice and smooth. But I don't get the point of it. What exactly is it supposed to do, stop the gear from spinning? I have no idea what it mechanically does differently.

But no, I granny shift.

When you shift, the collar in the transmission must glide into the teeth holes in the gear. At redline rpms, the layshaft is spinning like crazy, and shifting will dramatically decrease the speed of it, probably causing the dog teeth to grind on the gear. Double clutching allows the layshaft to spin down to the appropriate speed, allowing a grindless, seamless shift. So yeah, it's quite mechanically different

Hey Warren. If I'm going along at like 70 in 5th gear and I downshift into 3rd to take someone, should I rev up while shifting? Just like if I shift up like regular I let the RPMs down to match the clutch. Should I rev the engine when downshifting to match revs? I'm assuming yes. I asked my dad and he didn't really know but said yes.

It depends Moose, from 5th to 3rd gear, that's about (on my car) 2000rpm difference. When I do that, usually I just use the clutch slowly to build up the rpms, but you can use the gas too. But I wouldn't rev it with the clutch in and then let it off, just go slow on the clutch. There's no good quick way to downshift, and don't double clutch when downshifting, it has the opposite effect. I just let the clutch off slow to pull the rpms up with a little gas, but I don't rev it, takes too long, and at really high rpms, it can be difficult to match it, and if you're doing this to pass someone, just let off the clutch slowly.

And if I'm regular shifting to a higher gear, if I rev match then my VTec stays open through the shift and thus more power, but that's bad on my clutch and gears, isn't it :/
