Radeon 9500 to 9700/9700 Pro

Radeon 9500 to 9700/9700 Pro

Some of you may have seen this, but others may not have:

to what goes on in the mods and what cards can be modded,
to one (and at the time of posting, the only one available for download) of the mods to turn your 9500 128 mb NON Pro card into a 9700 or with overclocking a 9700 Pro.

Just ordered my 9500, so this is really cool to me and might save others 200+ dollars when they consider the right vid card.

So let me make sure, only a software (and not hardware) mod needs to be done? If so, then cool. I probably should get that instead of a Ti4200.

[edit] Actually, I noticed that many people got artifacts. I think I'll just stick with the 4200 just to be safe. It's $40 cheaper anyway.

Pros do not work as they are on a different pcb than the non pros. Just get the 160$ sapphire 9500 128mb from newegg, there's already reports of it working on it.

"Saphire radeon 9500 128mb Infineon 3.3ns RAM (from newegg) ... All games ran fine including ut2k3. No artifacts."

Oh, and note no bios flashing is needed unless you want to overclock it after the 9700 modification.
It looks like unwinder's mod is out now and part of rivatuner, so you have two ways to do it, one may be more effective than the other.

for success and failure stories.

One More:
"Ok, just finished testing these drivers, and they work for me.

Here it is:

Athlon XP 1600+
256DDR PC2100
ECS K7S5A
Sapphire ATI 9500 Non-Pro 128Mb (the Red pcb, with 3,6ms memoriy)
DirectX 9.0 (which sux cause it takes many FPS)
Cat 3.0

Normal results:
Fill Rate (Single-Texturing) 928.9 MTexels/s
Fill Rate (Multi-Texturing) 1114.6 MTexels/s
» http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=5616798

Hacked Driver results:
Fill Rate (Single-Texturing) 1537.8 MTexels/s
Fill Rate (Multi-Texturing) 2171.3 MTexels/s
» http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=5617131
"

It seems this card has the highest success rate, but it still isn't gaurunteed, then again, nobody mentions trying unwinder's mod.

Thats also not as optimized as the final product, obviously. The framerates should be higher, but by then, we will all have 2 ghz or higher computers :)
