Hobbes, you get a gold star.
Tech. It's not "a lot of Christians I meet are very ignorant..." it's "a lot of people..." Being Christian has NOTHING to do with their ignorance, they're just ignorant all around. It just so happens that the majority of the people in the US are stupid and the majority of the people are Christian. There is no correlation.
I'm a Christian and I'm very educated when it comes to science. Religion and science never clash, one cannot explain things about the other. There is absolutely NO PLACE in which religion and science over lap, or even have the opportunity to do so. Some ignorant people try to force one to precede the other, whether the precedence is religion or science does not matter. The person that says science can explain everything is a fool, and the person that says religion can explain everything is weak in faith and zealous. My intellectual pursuits have never contradicted my religious pursuits. Infact, everything that science has taught me has only strengthen my religious beliefs.
Religion does not restrict anyone. Some people just want to be restricted. Some gain this restriction through science, others through religion, some through fast food. It's just their vice, their hobby, their obsession. There are always whackos out there. But this is America, if some whacko doesn't want their kid taught evolution then the parent can homeschool that child. If they're too lazy to do it then they shouldn't be complaining about the solid, well rounded education that they're receiving for free. What these ... "enthusiasts" don't understand is, you have to understand and be educated on all points of view in order to understand why one is right. You can't understand why killing is bad unless you understand what murder is. Just because killing is bad doesn't mean people shouldn't be told what death is.
editing your posts afterwards is lame.
