The base of my religion is Jesus Christ, I'd hope that the base of yours is, too.
This was your point about Romans, loud and clear:

Seeing as how Protestants came from Catholics after that event there is no distinguishing between the two at that time, just as a Jew can't say that they went through Egyptian imprisonment because of their faith and I didn't because I'm Christian. That's fallacious. Christianity sprung from Judaism after that event. The Protestants were oppressed by the Romans because Protestants were Catholic at the time.
I don't agree with some of the Catholic rituals because Jesus and the Apostles teach against such rituals and symbolism.
