Don't bother with it. You can get the Dell for either $200 or $300 NEW, and you'll be far happier off with either of the Dells. The 3800 continued the 3600's tradition of problems, this time slowdowns in the display. You've got dual slots on the Dell to boot.

The amount of programs are the same, ARM == XScale.

The screen cover that comes with the iPAQ is far from "nice"

Imho the ipaq screens are too bright. For me is the brilliance and the contrast of a display more important. Idont buy an pda in order to own a hightech flashlight  .

The Dell is really an excellent PDA. I use a screen protector with mine, but I use a leather case too, since I like to carry a CF Modem and Wireless NIC with it. And they recently added a nice flip-top case to their site that you might want to check out as well.

As for the 400MHz being worth the extra money, not by itself, since you can overclock the 300MHz to 400MHz. But when you double the memory from 32MB to 64MB, I think it's worth it, especially since they're using the new XScale processors too. If you don't need the extra Storage/Program memory, the 300MHz with a 128MB or 256MB SD card is the better way to go.

Loyed:

First of all, our good friend Atrovent here was talking about getting an iPAQ 3835, which actually has a screen that's not bright enough IMO. It's the newer ones with the super-bright screens. And those, just like every other PPC, have a backlight brightness control so they don't have to be blinding if you don't want them to be

The Dell DOES come with a protective case, but I think it has to be removed before use.

The one that comes with the 3800 is utter crap, you'll be better off getting a case for the 3800 anyway.

Dell does sell an aluminium hardcase. Has anyone tried it? I'm read some mixed reviews of other metal cases and thought I'd ask about this one.
