It's open source, so it doesn't have a licensing fee attached, and it can be ported to many systems. I like WMA because of the noticeable sound quality compared to MP3s at similar bitrates. It plays on macs too, which is the only other OS I use regularly aside from Windows.

Ported to many systems? Last time I checked, MP3 still has much larger penetration in terms of software AND hardware. Licencing, I suppose, but it hasn't seemed to matter to anyone yet.

What I meant was that since it's open source it can, but yeah, you're right. Just about every OS has an MP3 app for it.

I'm sticking to my conviction that a VBR ogg at 180-200k (which is usually what I encode at) is better than an MP3 or WMA (BTW, I use Linux a lot to play music and kinda hate WMP for PPC, so that's not a very good option) at 192k.
