GSM Phone?

GSM Phone?

Postby NYIllustrator » Aug 18, 2003 @ 4:06am

I currently have a Sony Ericsson T68i GSM phone with T Mobile service. I am moving to Florida and wonder if I should get a new phone, because in NY I barely EVER GET SERVICE. This is due to the GSM network. I saw that Pocket PC/Sprint phone. Does anyone know anything about it? Is it as good a pocket pc as my ipaq 1910? Was thinking this would be a good idea, because then I wouldnt have to carry around a pocket pc and phone. But it also doesnt have bluetooth. I dunno basically I want a phone that has a good service connection. Unless for some strange reason, my GSM phone will suddenly be much better in Florida? What is the other service besides GSM? is it analog?

CDMA is the opposing service protocol. But I'd suggest you wait until you get down here to see how well it works. I get AT&T GSM service nearly everywhere I go, and T-Mobile has an even larger network. As of July T-Mobile customers have roaming access onto AT&T networks and vice versa. The only place I don't get any service is a little 20 mile strip of road north of Arcadia, and there's nothing on that road but cows. And without the huge buildings and everything that NYC has the signal can go to its 14 mile radius quite easily. Florida is pretty well covered, have you looked at a service map of Florida on T-Mobile's website? What about AT&T's? VoiceStream is another GSM network that I find is available as well when I search for GSM networks on my phone.

The Sprint PPCPhone is kind of expensive and outdated, but it will do all that you want it to do. I'm just against Sprint.

Sprint is fucking terrible. I have a sprint phone and have never gotten more than three bars of service anywhere but Boston. In my hometown it rarely goes above one little bar (which basically means I'll get cut off at any second and I can't hear shit).

The coverage here in indy is great with sprint. I just switched (last night in fact) to nextel since all my family is on it, and the walkie talkies kick ass! One of my friends is going to get it too.
