Because they didn't realize it was a choice.

I don't care if someone is gay, but they certainly can choose not to satisfy that desire. All of them can switch teams if they tried, even if they're never rid of it. The mind forms pathways in the brain, and those pathways will always be there, but you can choose what pathways remain active or fall to decay.

I know several homosexuals. I've defended homosexuals on every occasion I get. But that doesn't mean I'm for gay rights, or public exhibition.
