The code compiles, but what are you going to do with it? You need the other game assets to play.
Sure you can compile HL1, and play it, but what does the code give you? We already have the code to Quake2 upon which HL1 is based.
I would wager that unless you understand a good chunk of the Q2 code (and I would wager that nobody here does), then it's pointless to move on to the HL1 code, let alone the HL2 code.
There's so much code, you can't just dive in and make a mod or whatever you might be dreaming of doing. Even making cheats would be hard, and who really enjoys cheats anyways?
I think the only people interested in this code are those who want to make cheats, and those who are otherwise interested in game code out of curiousity. Not average game players, or game-making companies.
The game HL2 itself will be out soon. Buy it and play it then. It will be better than what was leaked, with bug fixes and improved art. What was leaked isn't finished; if it was finished, it would be on a store shelf surely.
