Why do people think it's the role of government to create jobs? Government doesn't create jobs - expanding businesses creates jobs.
If politicians want to reduce unemployment, then they need to be more friendly to businesses and promote their expansion. That usually comes in the form of tax breaks or reduced regulations and simplified license/permit processes.
Also, someone show me where in the US Constitution that says anything about the responsibility of the government to create jobs. I've looked for it, but I couldn't find it.
Thierry, I'd be ecstatic if government just stopped expanding, nevermind shrinking. That would be an impressive feat in itself.
Brigg, the numbers that I quoted regarding the percentage of welfare revenue lost in government management is from a study performed by economist and author Thomas Sowell. I would wager that the overwhelming majority of voters have no idea of who Ayn Rand was. The libertarians probably do but they are never going to get anywhere in the US.
