I'll ignore the childish name-calling. You asked a few valid questions that need to be addressed. You also made some inferences that are not quite accurate. First, I'm not sure that some of the hieroglyphics referring to the flood are considered religious texts, at least not by my standards. You also seem to assume that man was stupid a long time ago and is getting smarter now. If we get any smarter, we will have to find another planet to poison because this one can't take much more of our one sided intelligence. Just show me one city where the byproducts of mixing chlorine and human feces aren't present in the annual water reports. As far as a global flood (did you say it was mentioned in religious text?), Enough water to cover the whole face of the earth would not take many days to erode and dissolve many substances like limestone, topsoil, salt, etc. The currents from such an event would spread sea life inland and deposit it throughout the world. Rising and falling water make currents, Currents can do things like move the topsoil’s of the earth around and deposit them in another location. In Arkansas, the topsoil is only about 3 inches. In Illinois, the topsoil is many feet deep. You can take an aquarium and put some dirt and sand and such into it, fill it with water, and stir for a couple days and then pour off the majority of the water and you can see the effects of water... you will have sedimentary layers. On this planet, one can dig as far inland as he wants and he will get to sedimentary layers which contain fossilized sea life. I feel this is proof positive of a global flood. You ask where did the water come from. That is another very valid question which deserves a very detailed answer. Before I answer that, I need to mention a biological fact about reptiles. Reptiles grow their entire lives. They die when their size exceeds their lungs ability to sustain them. A very small alligator will grow to be several feet long in a very short time--the older, the bigger. For present day alligators to grow to grow any bigger, there would have to be a much better supply of oxygen. In fact our atmosphere would have to be about double. In an double atmosphere, every form of life would have the chance to live much longer lives. The common lizards would be able to become bigger than cattle... They would live hundreds of years. Mammals would also live considerably longer. Plants would also grow faster than Miracle Grow could provide now. We do not have such an atmosphere now. But did we ever? Was the earth ever capable of sustaining life for longer life spans than it can now? Where did the Glaciers come from? Why are there modern human footprints in the same limestone layer as a T-REX? Limestone dries like cement in just a few hours so T-REX and modern man lived at the same time. This is solid scientific fact. In TEXAS, there is a excavation that Proves this. Back to question about where did the water come from... I would THEORIZE , that there was a bubble of water suspended above the upper layers of the atmosphere which caused the earth to have a double atmosphere very rich in oxygen and able to support large reptiles like are evident in the fossil remains of the dinosaurs and the abundant vegetation which has formed into coal and petroleum. If there was a dome of water suspended above the earth making it a greenhouse for live, then what would happen if something burst it? Something like a large meteorite or a shower of them. Have we found evidence of meteorites on earth? If they fell through a dome of water, then their impact would be greatly lessoned. But the water would come down. It would cover the face of the earth and literally move mountains and create valleys and such. The foundations of the whole earth would be moved. It would be catastrophic life ending event. It would take one with great insight make a plan that would save any life on the planet. We have found an ancient boat made of gopher wood. It's real and exists. Cave writings tell about it. Europeans all have this story in their ancestry. Are those stories just fables? I started out believing all the textbooks. As I have lived my life, I have found many errors in the reasoning concerning many popular scientific theories. Because of this, I had to re think some of my education. Not being one to just take someone else’s word for it, I started doing my own research. My theories are supported by my own personal research. As for the earth being 3K-4K year old, I didn't not imply that. I implied that a global flood took place in that time frame. I believe that man has been on earth for much longer than that. The oldest historical accounts that I found were in the bible. If you do the biblical math, from Adam to Jesus and then add our calendar year of 2003 to it, it comes to 6K+ years. If you look at other non-biblical civilizations that kept records like the Mayans, their calendar goes up to 2013 or so. It goes back about as far. That's only 4K plus years. I would tend to go with the larger number since I’m only trying to satisfy my personal thirst for knowledge. You will not find my ideas in print because they are not very popular. Perhaps you will call me stupid. I say that's just your opinion and you are entitled to it. But the intelligence of us stupid people like my self are very independent souls. I don't know where your intelligence has placed you on the rung of life, but mine has made me rich and the founder of a couple very successful businesses. I drive nice cars. I own very expensive toys. I don't pay rent. I have never been employed by anyone but myself in my whole life of 42 years. If this is being a looser, I couldn't stand winning. And yes, I am a Christian—and I didn’t take an oath of poverty. I am very financially blessed. When you get out of college, maybe I’ll hire you and teach you about the real world. Everyone in this forum seems to be highly intelligent and able to think for themselves. I respect your opinion, they do reflect your age though. It has been my observation that truely intelligent folks tend to seek fulfillment in religion after schooling lets them down. In my city, there are alot of waiters with college degrees. Out of the people that I went to school with, most of ones who were the brightest in studies and made the best grades are working for the ones who made B's and C's. Do a little research on that. I would be curious to find our if Bill Gates or Sam Walton were "A" students or "B and C" students.
I have enjoyed this discussion, I hope I haven't offended anyone with my politically-uncorrect views. Maybe I drank too much beer at the Sigma Nu House when I was in College and it warped my brain. I'm sure some of you will enjoy telling me so.
