There are things you have to do prior to shooting guns for recreation. You must pass a test, get a liscense, go to an authorized area... in a lot of ways it's like marriage before sex. If you don't lisecense your firearm, it's punishment by imprisonment. If you have sex outside of marriage, its punished by added responsibility, guilt, ridicule, and if you are not found out, you have a secret. And most of the time, the person you think is loyal isn't, so you end up alone anyway.

The scope in question was premarital sex.

Whether or not you're licensed to have a gun, accidents do happen--people get shot in the torso, head... groin.

It's not different at all. They are two acts that have inherent dangers. It doesn't mean we should stop doing them.
