Linux Guidance

Postby RICoder » Feb 9, 2004 @ 1:41am

Its kinda like fate...I put Fedora on this machine and then decided to reinstall XP on my other laptop....mostly because I use it for development and I kill machines...but anyway....

I have no choice but to use this Fedora machine since I cannot join my work domain from home. This time with Linux has changed some of my perceptions about it.

First off, it is unstable at best. It decides periodically to drop my network connection. It cannot see my Domain. It hangs during updates online. I have had to reboot it more TODAY than I had to reboot my XP machine in a month.

It's cool...it's quick (not much more than XP if at all) and it's different...but I'll never switch to it.

To Dan's point I say this...I'd pay twice that amount knowing that the OS supported my current infrastructure, I had help from a known company at any given time, and I didn't have to deal with the IT nightmare that I can only imagine Linux would cause.

Oh...and Mozilla is lame...I always hated Netscape.

Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though--it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.

Core 3? They're running Core 2 in the Comp. Sci labs at Uni, it only served to remind me why I don't like Linux. It's slow, bits don't work, and XP looks prettier. Oh, and I did mention that Mozilla sucks?
Crosswind technique: "Using your peripheral vision, react to body movements, gasps, groans, and shouts from the other side of the cockpit, and always remember that it's better to be lucky than good."
