You don't understand, the work done by the FPSEce team is not even a drop in the water compared to what the original FPSE people did. Hell, R0B had his port running in a couple of days, and he barely worked on it! I'm not donating for software in which the developers didn't do anything besides the port, and a few other features.
To answer your question, yes it is too much to ask. I'll support developers when they deserve it.
