If some guy had a gun pointed at me within my arm's reach I'm 70% sure, based on the circumstances and who else was around, that I'd attempt to disarm him. If he asked for my wallet I'd probably take it out, toss it at him and then make a move. If I were on a date when this happened then I'd make sure she got behind a car or out of the way first. If a crowd was nearby I'd probably definitely go for it as long as no one was in the path the bullet may take behind me. If he was more than 3 feet away with the gun, though, then I'd have to come up with something more ingenious to do to distract him.

Wow moose, a few adjectives come to mind when I read your post:

Valiant!
Brave!
Chivalrous!
Ingenious!
Naive!
Stupid!
Fantastical!
The fates lead him who will;
Him who won't, they drag.

The thing about martial arts is that if someone does point a gun to your head, hopefully you've practiced enough to react quickly and disarm him.

Pissing your pants might work just as well.
Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though--it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.

Umm, I don't care if you're Bruce Lee: .5" of finger movement beats 2 feet of arm movement. Every time.

The only thing you might have going for you, is that a mugger probably doesn't want to kill you.

I live about 2 hours from Disneyland if the traffic is good.

I know it's a scary situation, but I've been in some tight spots before. I really wouldn't freak out. My home was robbed a few years ago. I saw the lock had been smashed on the front door and I instinctually went back in the garage and got out one of the machettes we have and then circled the house and then went inside. Some people just have different instincts.

I realize it would be an extremely scary situation, but a lot of the martial arts trains you to keep a cool head so you can act properly when/if the time comes.

BTW, being a hero would be doing this:

Man comes in, spraying MAC-10. You get up and stand in front of the stream of bullets, protecting loved ones, absorbing all 40 shots in the mag. You have so much adrenaline, that you disarm him and beat him into a bloody applesauce, then dramatically say "My work is done." and fall to the floor. Your girlfriend runs to you crying and cradles your head in her arms and says "why did you do it?" and then you say, "Because I love you baby, I won't let anything happen to you."

Thats fantastical.
