No, technically it's your choice, but most likely the school's. They are two separate exams. While you do receive an AB subscore if you take the BC exam, there is a separate AB exam, which I assume is a more watered-dowm version of the test. Most colleges will give you credit for both I and II if you do well on the BC exam, and will give you credit for only I if you do well on the AB exam.
