Please stop suggesting things I wouldn't buy. Limit your suggestions to actual laptops -- I've made it fairly clear that that's all I'm interested in. To clarify: I want a PC laptop, preferably a Dell. Mobility and battery life are my top priorities, NOT gaming (though I will probably play a game or two at some point, so I want it to be relatively capable).

I like the IBM T41, but it might be a hard sell on my parents because of the price. We'll see though -- maybe they'll want to dish out a few more bucks for something that lasts rather than buying me something new later. Also, there's no discount with IBM.

Just how unreliable are Dells?

[edit] Damn -- I just configured a comprable (but slightly superior, ie 768mb RAM) IBM T41, and it's $3,000!! Is it really worth $600 (for me more like $900) extra bucks?! It even has an inferior display (XGA instead of SXGA+)

sponge, i have an x1000 too. I think the 9200 is decent for gaming. Although I don't play many FPS games on it. It seems to handle RTS, RPG, and MMORPG games quite nicely to me. What CPU/RAM/HD do you have? Oh yeah, what resolution on your monitor?

www.x1000forums.com is a cool site if you havent already found it...

statix: Damn, there are a lot of us it seems! I've posted a few times on that site, no need to though. 1.4GHz P4-M, 512MB RAM (upgraded myself) 40GB HD, 1280x800 screen. Got it for $800-$1000 from a Black Friday deal. My desktop machine has a 9600XT, so I definitely notice a huge difference, being an FPS gamer myself. I'm unable to run most games in 1280x800 due to the speed.

sandmann: Whatever RAM you get, go for 1 DIMM if you can. I guess the Dells are OK, I can't stand them now due to a few problems I've run into them, specifically their goddamn non-English speaking tech support center.
holy internets batman.

nice, i have 1.6ghz 640ram(added 512 myself), 60gb HD, 1680x1050 res. Yeah the 9200 is a bit sluggish on modern FPS's unfortunately.
