How big

How big

How big will a movie become when you convert it to a suitable format for the PPC.
I know there's a guide on how to compress movies down to 20 megs, but is the movie even really watchable then?
(I haven't got a PPC yet, just curious :)

The 20 mb guide is barely watchable and is ment for people who do not have any extra storage, just the onboard space. I have encoded a 2 hour movie in high quality mpeg format and is weighed in at about 280MB. In wmv that might be say, 100-120mb or so. But wmv "blends" like colors toghether for better compression, so you will lose some quality. Hope that helps

I wouldn't use WMV, you can get better results from MPG and still get tiny file sizes compared to WMV.

I've got episodes of the Sopranos in mpg only wieghing in at 79megs for a full hour. It looks nice and moves at 24fps, WMV could never touch that.

They're prolly DivX, that's an entirely different compression medium all together.

It does rock though, I convert all my video captures to HQ DivX AVIs for PC playback. They're easy to work with since they're in an AVI wrapper.

Yeah, when I think of usenet I think of what the internet was before the WWW: ftp, telnet, usenet, email and gopher. :) I remember when I was at YSU and usenet had less than 4000 newsgroups.

Dan East

well i also get it from the pub distro ftp's but they are few and far between, i know about 15 or so. I go to irc for old stuff, no new movies they are queued to like 100 and crap. ANd since i know all the ops in the rooms i go into, i get to skip queues :)
