Yep, I first rip the audio via VOB2Audio, the create a project file in DVD2AVI.

I then load that project file with Tmpgenc, and load the ripped audio file from earlier and slap the two together. This is where I encode directly to a lower bitrate MPG file, rather than having huge AVIs floating around.

DVD2AVI is used as a vob conduit for Tmpgenc. It basically sets Tmpgenc to grab the entire video stream from the separate vob files, rather than having to process each one individually then merge with mpgtools.

It's easy, and just what Tmpgenc is made for.

To make the output mpg VCD compliant, you have to then run the file through bbmpeg to set a certain mpeg parameter which Tmpgenc can't do. It's pretty quick, and ensures your mpg will be 100% VCD compliant across the boards.
