Skinning the Today screen

-Moose Master

You've got that right. Can't draw if my life depended on it, But for Phototshop....It has eased me alot. I had just finish doing my skins for WMP and Today banner and Today date. Including for WisBar. And there all seeming. Took awhile to find the exact splicing for each of those though.

but nothing is more soothing than standing out on your terrace overlooking the lake and painting to your hearts content. The sweeping brushstokes, and dabs of color.

There aren't any mistakes in painting, if you just relax and let the image flow.

Randall, you can do the very same with a TabletPC and any art program of your liking.

I'd love to have photoshop with me anywhere. PocketArtist still doesn't satisfy my needs. It's like photoshop 3 I think it was, before they introduced Layers.

Well, I have my Today screen PSD somewhere, I'll post it when I find it. It might be cool to make a PQ button for the today screen. The one I have now is made to fit a specific way.

What might be cool is to take all the screenshots that will be used for MaximumPC and turning them into a Today's the Day Quake skin. Each day an exciting new Frag shot or something :) I'm tired of these wussy happy go lucky skins, I want something that fits my mood, not the mood of an office munkey...

-999

When using Today Image Powertoy, do get this white bar that kind of divides the Today Banner and you other shortcut images? It looks like on your Screen shot that there isn't. How you solve this problem if you don't get the little white divider?

Ray-

Good question. The answer comes in two parts.

1- According to Neil Faulkner, the author of Today's the Day has solved the "white line" bug with his application. However, it's limited to just TTD.

2- There is no fix outside of using TTD. There is however a *workaround*. The trick is to work white into your design to fall right along that white row of pixels. What I did to further cheat was create an alternating black and white pattern, and the "white line" glitch falls perfectly centered in the pattern, so you take even less notice of it. Look at the black and white lines above and to the left of the "999" in the today image. Those are the pattern lines I'm talking about. The white line directly under the orange piece is actually the glitched out row of white pixels.

The Today Screen Image powertoy can use gif or jpg.

Launcher uses shortcuts. Just drop your shortcuts or exe files in /launcher of your device for them to show up.

Yes, there is a calculator applet, even a battery monitor one as well. Have a look ipaqsoft.net i think it is. Most everything there has a Mips counterpart.

I think 999 is using WisBar. Pretty good program and don't take too much memory also. Not complicated to configure like gigabar.

Yep, I prefer Wisbar to Gigabar, less overhead.

The pic in this thread is old, here's what I've got runnin' nowadays.

Image

I quite fancy OSX, so I just had to make my iPAQ look the same.

BTW- There's a piccy of that infamous Parrot of Death the iPAQs are known for~
