Concerning the Klipsch 2.1s: the following is posted on a product review on amazon.com: "A word of caution: your 128kbps-encoded mp3s will NOT sound very good, as these speakers will bring to light every pop and flaw of a compressed music file. Stick to CDs, and you will be in heaven."

Almost everything I listen to is 128kbs...

[edit] Hmm, on further investigation of the reviews, it says they have "analog" plugs as well -- that means I can plug in my iPod or TV to them as well, correct? What cord would I need to do this? If it's feasible, that's a big plus for the Klipsch 2.1.

One more question: one of the common complaints is that the sub-to-satellite wires are too short. Is there any way I could extend them? Thanks.

The guy on amazon is right - decent speakers are merciless on MP3s (never heard the Klipsches so I have no idea if they qualify). I can't listen to MP3s on my main setup at all, but through crappy monitor speakers or even "reasonable" headphones, they sound ok.

cdex with lame, get it. vbr, do it. if you can't hear the HORRIBLE artifacting on 128kbps now, you probably won't notice on klispch. harman/kardon is good stuff too though. i mean it is harman/kardon.
