I just noticed on a GBA forum that someone ported the original Elite to C. :) Now THAT would be cool on the PocketPC. Anyone got some spare time? :)

You will have your descent port. :) I'm currently suddenly very busy with The Nutcracker, so that has some priority. Once that has been taken care of, I'll be back on the Descent project.

Klesk: Register dude! :)
Elite is a very famous game from the early days. It was one of the first games to feature realtime first person 3D graphics. It was originally coded for the BBC homecomputer, but it was ported to almost every platform, including the C64, Atari, MSX, Amiga and even PC.
It was a very remarkable game: It featured an enormous universe of millions of stars that you could visit. You could fight in the universe with good guys and bad guys (you actually had a 'reputation'), and the trading got you money for new ships and weapons. Each planet had it's own political circumstances and so on. Of course this stuff was not stored in a data file, it was generated on the fly, but with a fixed seed, since the universe (and the random planet names) where always the same. All this stuff sounds too good to be true for a modern game, but in those days, it fitted on a single floppy and ran on 64Kb machines (or less). Awesome stuff.
That dude didn't need good data for a world. :)

I haven't either experienced Elite, but I've heard of it. Here you seem to be able to play Elite on a Java Spectrum emulator

Probably, or otherwise on a C64 emu or whatever. Thing is, I think a native port would be quite a bit cooler (and faster, for that matter).

Sorry for disturbing but... Why the heck most of you are talking about porting an old game to PPC?
No offense, there were MANY great games (most of them are better then current games anyway), but can't we come up with something new? I say, few ports are ok, probably noone minds quake or doom..., but well, from what I hear 50% of coders on this board spend time porting games and not creating games... that's sick I guess. So ppl, move your ass and create something new... I don't want to play paperboy till i die...:)

PS.really no offense to anyone was meant, sorry if someones feelings were hurt:)

PPS.And if someone says "yeah, paperboy port, that would be cool" I will shoot him;)
With best regards,
