3000 people died in the Sept. 11 WTC attack. According to modern political rhetoric, that was one of the largest atrocities ever in American history.

7200 Americans died in 2001 alone, in need of an organ transplant. Who knows how many others lived significantly dehabilitated lives due to faulty or missing organs.

What is the cost of delaying the technology required to regrow and repair damage organs -- an area where embryonic stem cell research shows incredible promise? How many years have Bush's actions set back the advent of that sort of medical procedure? Do the math: just this one instance of his irrational, religious bullshit is all but guaranteed to kill thousands of Americans (and many more non-Americans).

[edit: I really need to reinstall that spell-checker plugin]

You two are alarmists. I'm about to freak out right now and go sell one of my kidneys on ebay and donate the money to help the poor little children!

My projection wasn't alarmist, it was conservative. I believe the casualties of Bush Co.'s stem-cell policy will dwarf those of Iraq, Afghanistan, WTC, and whatever other wars he sparks up before he's done.

You can trivialize it all you like, but it doesn't change the numbers.

Of course natural death will account for more than the deaths from wars.

Does the fact that you deem these deaths "natural" change anything? Without modern medicine, we'd all be naturally dead. It's a preventable loss of life and that's all that matters.

The deathcount was intended to help people put things into perspective. People get worked up when 30 soldiers die in Iraq; yet when the president vetos a bill that'd probably save thousands of people's lives? Well shit, that's a moral victory.

There are better things than stem cells, and that don't carry any stigma.

Maybe you should write to the president@whitehouse.gov and tell him what you think.

I don't know of a scientists that has said adult stem cells are better than embryonic. Of course I don't question you ability to find rogue scientists to quote.
