The next generation iPaq will be a 412MHz StrongARM processor with PowerVR graphics chipset featuring loseless FSAA and tilebased rendering for increased speed. And it's supposed to be out by Christmas.

Ya, sure. Whatever. It's got graphics chip inside of it, that's all that's important.

It won't be out by this Christmas Moose, and I doubt it will be out by next Christmas either.

You need more than just a chip, you need a driver model and an API. GAPI won't do it. If fact, using GAPI's direct frame buffer access won't work when you're doing 3D rendering using the hardware. Ask anyone who's using D3D8 today about locking the render target or the primary buffer.

Can you point us to where you read that there will be 3D hardware in a Pocket PC by this Christmas?

I had it bookmarked, but since my computer crashed and erased my hard drive. I also saw it on Dale Coffing's PPCPassion website in February. It could have been just a rumor that it would be out by Christmas, can't be sure.

If you really think about it by the end of this year the ipaq will be 2 years old....and with the release of merlin i think they are due for a new pda......if they dont then toshiba will dominate the pda market

If palm uses the Intel CPU I bet there gonna have to recompile each app!!! They're really gonna die if that happens! All the apps will be useless!
