@migo Review

Yes. Mine came only with a cable (no cradle). I wouldnt mind a cradle and/or cable only option. Rather than be forced into either choice. I would prefer a longer USB cable than the one included because it makes no difference whether its cable or cradle for me in its current syncing position.

Damn that infernal spell check!

Yeah it came with a sync cable rather than cradle. I think it is a nice feature, mostly because I like to use the unit while its syncing and this way I can set it in my lap instead of having to set it on the computer desk.

That is a good point. I have been able to use it while syncing a lot more than I use my Casio while syncing.

As for the case again, how did you figure that was the "intended" way?
well there are a few reasons that is the intended way.

1. There is a cut-out in the case so that you can plug in you headphones and listen to mp3's while the @migo is in its closed case. You can do this the way you put your case away too, but it just seems to fit so perfect the way I put it in the case.

2. So you can sync while in its case

3. There is no #3 so just pretend its here:)

Maybe they designed the case to work both ways? I dunno, I had never looked at it from the other prospective. If I ever do get a wireless card and i need room for the antenna I will have to keep that in mind though.

I wouldn't put the case on with the buttons facing the screen. It is just "screaming" for something to press against the case and drive that button through the screen.

I'm just freaky about screens. My first laptop suffered a terrible demise when the cat knocked it off the couch and a stack of books went through the screen. A replacement screen would have cost me $1200... It obviously never got replaced.
Hmm. I think I like your way better. I listen to mp3s all the time with my Casio. especially when i'm working in a lab, but when I get up and move to another area or machine for a while...I have to take it with me or leave it.
Being able to plug headphones into the case with its beltclip..sweeeet (you see, i never bother to buy a new case). Hadnt thought of that. who needs an mp3 player [device] then.
I finally got rid of my cradle and synch through the CF ethernet card. It's so much better, faster, and I can synch from any available port in any room.

My house is completely wired with CAT5 network cable.

Thanks for the good words. I'm sure Matt will be glad to hear them. And you've made a good choice buying the @migo. It is the best.

One month ago I got my @migo and I like it very much. My Casio E-115 lays unused at home. I agree with Matt and others: it's just a great thing. But there are some lacks. According to the specifications the main battery should work 8 hours "under normal operating conditions" (?); my battery drains in a shorter time. What are your experiences? A second remark: the buttons (onthe front and on the right side) start very lightly; when the @amigo is in my Targus case I risk to start it by closing the case or by the slightest pressure on the leather. And a third remark: Living in Switzerland I would like to get a German version of @amigo (localized WinCE); there is only a US-version. But nevertheless: I like my @amigo.

jjzihl

I think matt told me his battery was lasting around 10 hours. But you'll have to ask him.

jjzihl,

It really all depends on what you are doing with your device. It is rated to last 8 hours with no pc card in the slot, and only using the built in programs such as word and contacts. Nobody realisticaly uses a pocketpc just for PIM, the second you start to use a the speaker or pc-cards, that 8 hour figure will go down. Nevertheless I have had wonderful battery life, much better than my old Casio.

I have a question you said the @migo had basically the same screen technology as the ipaq. Does this mean it also has the dust problem, you know dust under the screen and the backlight illuminating it all neon and bright. I will never buy another pda with the dust problem it drives me insane.

I do have a dust problem. And thats...Onscreen Dust. I'm constantly blowing or wiping away dust off the top. Heh. Really, that's not a flaw. But for some reason it seems to attract dust like a sweater in the winter. It's really only obvious when I turn my screen off. I only say this b/c dust didnt seem to collect as much on my Casio's screen.

Unfortunately...i had to go all techy and my old PC Card NIC is Cardbus. WHy didnt I buy the Type II...but oooh noooo. So...i'm waiting for an ethernet pc card from a friend of mine...for free next week. Thank you very much, friend. So I can get the top speed syncing with my @migo.

I havent actually trialed the battery power all the way yet. But I have noticed it ran significantly longer than my Casio. Still had power bar over 25% remaining after 2 hours of straight typical usage that normally would have reached critical already with the Casio. Yeah..pretty intensive crappy power hungry stuff I do. I am replacing my microdrive with a CF (via PC Card attachment) b/c I dont need all that space for less power.

Last modification: JongJungBu - 07/09/01 at 16:40:38
