AMD needs to get into the game
Definately. But I doubt they would be able to do a complex CISC x86 processor working on such tiny size and consuming around 250mW. They would do a RISC processor instead. For sure they would do it better than inte*...
What I would really like is having some graphics acceleration on pocketpc! Latest ATI radeon mobile just takes about 300mW and it´s ultra-fast. With something like this I assume we wouldn´t have sluggish windows perfomance (did you ever tried pocket internet explorer, hugh!, that thing stinks!!).
And we could play Q3 Arena on the pocketpc!!
PowerVR has announced that they've designed a graphics chip for the PocketPC. Did I hear 18 months for it? Hell that's less time than the wait I had to take for my Geforce3 card (who actually paid $600+ for a GF3?)

I leave for a few days and all heck breaks out!

1) AMD is not a contender. Why? Well, because even in their fabrication of x86 processors there are issues. In one breath we say that MS bugs will crash a PPC, and in the other we suggest AMD? Huh? MS OS's have been demonstrably less stable on AMD than on Intel, so I think this is a bit silly.

2) www.backtotheos2.com

3) I have to go back to my original assertion that a single platform (proc-wise) is a good thing, not a bad thing, and thus whomever is the winner it will be overall good. Would I prefer MIPS, probably, esp. since this new thing Motorola is doing with proc. design.

4) For all you into the I-wanna-be-cool-so-I-will-say-linux-is-da-bomb club, check out slashdot for a really wankerific and braindead discussion of why HP buying Compaq is good foo[sic] Linux.

Hugs and Kisses,

Both of the last two posts were spoken like true Microsoft users.

Congratulations.

I'll agree that the warez and whole /<-rad scenes are retarded. But have either of you actually USED Linux? Were you around for the days of DOS? Do you remember what it was like to actually control what your machine does, and when?

As a side note, I'm on /. at least a couple times a day, and have somehow managed to miss that discussion. I'll look into it.
