I do have a suggestion.  Why don't you list different bitrates to fit different size cf cards or something like that.

And don't just forget about mpeg either, I still prefer to use pockettv for some reason.... maybe I'm just oldskool, but I just find it easier for me (and a heck of a lot less work with an ati all-in-wonder )

No way!!<br><br>I have 4 All-inwinders and Divx is way easier to do.  You just need to use virtualdub for your capture program and select the Divx codec for the compression.  Divx will come out looking a lot better and smaller than mpeg-1 when captured from an All-In-wonder.<br><br>Actually you can use ATI media center, but it tends to screw up anything but mpeg-1.

Actually I have a IR and I use the programming options for my sat. and let it control vdub on my computer.  And like I said you van use Divx with multimedia center, you just need to figure out how to get it to keep audio in sync.  Maybe a problem on Win2k.  if you have 98 it may be fine.

i got pretty smooth 25fps 320x240 + 64k audio on my ipaq, was skipping a bit, but looked soooo good. Would the ipaq last 2 hours at 236mhz? PQ is pretty smooth at 236mhz, wish i had a fps meter. well anyway, if you o/c your ipaq, smooth video should be no problem. isn't it cool how divx can actualy drop frames instead doubling them like WM8 or mpeg-1. BTW i enoded the vid at 200k.

I suggest pre-rotated 280x200 video at 185 bitrate with the frames dicimated(sp?) by two.

all the stuff on this site is encoded as follows:<br><br>landscape:<br>320x128(or 144)<br>185kb video (24fps)<br>40kb mono audio (44100Hz)<br><br>if you're doing 29.97 fps, i would suggest 215kb video. I just finished ripping some dvds...<br><br>the matrix turned out about 250mb with:<br>215kb video (29.97fps  - 320x128)<br>48kb mono audio (44100Hz)<br><br>I use 2pass video for everything.. much better quality.<br><br>I'm using the LAME codec for mp3.

Don't buy ATI's All-in-One-der junk. It's terrible at recording stuff and they never update their drivers. I say get the Hauppauge WinTV-HD or the AccessDTV Digital Media Receiver.

Do you know when you might have the third edition finished? I'd be interested to learn how to edit the audio portions w/VirtualDub.

I've been trying to find some good istructions for ripping DVDs using DivX but haven't found any straight forward ones. (I'm still a newbie at ripping.)

Go to www.doom9.org.
Click on "The Guides" then
click on "DivX Guides" then
click on "Divx4" then
click on "Gknot" then
Follow the steps shown, Step 0 is installation.
Then under step 1 click the first word "Gknot"
and this takes you to an excellent howto on going from DVD to Divx...when encoding, use the settings in the above post from chris.

That howto won't work that well for Pocket PC. PocketDivX doesn't support VBR audio, which is what Nandub does... So, you're gonna have a lot of audio sync problems..

As for Third Edition: I'm starting finals this week, and they go on for two weeks, so I'll have time to work on it after that.
