Boycott Doom PDA

Boycott Doom PDA

Postby Courtney White » Jan 21, 2002 @ 9:46pm

Hi.

This is a post to try to persuade you to boycott MachineWork's Doom port on the bases that it is pressuring Rob, a well know HPC programmer, to discontinue his Doom port.

In my opinion, Rob's port is very impressive. HPC's rarely see programs of this caliber. Even though most of you are PPC users, Rob is a true "local" in the CE community.

Please Post Your Comments.

I seriously think this is inappropriate. I never intended to actually buy Doom from MachineWorks, but all of this is just causing more dissention and I think it would be for the best to not be so hostile.

What exactly is MachineWork's doing to Rob?

First of all, this is not meant to be harsh, vulger, etc. This is in good taste, and i feel that machineworks are using unfair tactices to reduce competition.

Im not sure what it is EXACTLY, but its clearly a legal issue.

Ya, I've already got one of the other 12 free Doom ports. Why ANYONE would buy it, I don't know. id Software released the source under GPL, Rob has no reason to fear as long as he will send the source to anyone that asks. He doesn't even have to put it on the website for download. It's not even a port of Doom, it's a port of Doom Legacy. So if there are issues than it would be with author of DoomLegacy, not with Rob.
This is all quite ridiculous. If you get any REAL information, come tell me.

Hey Hey, don't bite my head off. DoomPDA is a licenced port... WHICH only means they can sell the WAD file with it. Thats it.

I searced the ENTIRE Id webpage, and thats what it said.

I do researce before i post things like this. Rob is not violating anything of Id's. He only includeds Demo Wads.

Well MachineWorks has the option to get a non GPL liscence wich just means they dont have to release there ports sourve code and they can use the originall doom data files. Again i refer anyone making idiotic assumptions to go to www.gpl.com or maybe its www.gpl.org
