meh thats all they build around here [roundabouts] and they are a pain! Because half the time we have fucking moron tourists who dont know how to use them. Ive almost got hit atleast 5 times this week. The reason is these stupid ass people dont know what the hell a yield sign is. they treat getting in and out of a round about like a 4 way stop. pisses me right off :x

Ya, I saw this purty Yamaha Intercept in silver, I think, racing this guy in some red bike that looked similar but not identical. I'm not big up on bikes but seeing them pull away from the light like that was pretty kick ass. Some little 20hp bike could woop my brothers 3.2TL no problem.

A friend of mine has a Honda dirtbike, it's the best one he has, lasts the longest, and it's really loud :D.

Nope, NO ONE knows how to use a round-a-bout (rotary), I just go slow into and off of them, because people don't look when they get on! There are a TON of rotaries in Maine, and a lot of them don't have any signs! You go onto it, and you have to count the number of streets that go off of it until you get to the one you want. They show you a sign of the "exits" before you even get to the rotary.

Oh, I drove in Providence a few days ago, a million times easier than Boston, you can actually read the signs, and people don't drive crazily.

You know what all that extra stuff does? I keeps the gears from wearing out and shifts gears AMAZINGLY smoothly and quickly.
I doubt every car has an identical automatic shifting system. And gear ratios are a part of every transmission, manual or automatic, that determines how much power you get out of each gear. You want a lower gear ratio in the lower gears so you get more power and higher gear ratios in the higher end so you can keep up the speed but not run the engine redline.
There are tons and tons of gears in everything mechanical, they're the basics of mechanics. And plenty of clutches in manual, too. Just take a look at your vaunted "how clutches work" at . First sentence, "If you drive a manual transmission car, you may be surprised to find out that your car has more than one clutch in it." It goes on "even some yo-yos have a clutch!"

Manual: Your clutch will need to be replaced by 60,000 miles.
Automatic: Your transmission will need to be replaced at 170,000 miles.
There's something that will break down on no matter what you get. It just depends on how hard you use it, how expensive it is to replace, and how often it needs replacing. They both even themselves out in that respect, in the end.

it all varies from car to car, 170,000 miles is a bit optimistic, i know for a fact thst renualt lagunas go at precisely 73,000 miles. thats planned obsolescence for you.

manuals only have one clutch, but that can have a lot of plates inside it, basically the more friction plates in the clutch the heavier the pedal/lever, but the slower it wears out because you have more surface area. Cars i believe have about 8 plates in a standard clutch, bikes are more like 5.

and moose, you right about a 20 bhp bike beating a 3.2l car. my bike is 20 years old and 26 bhp (fucking 33 bhp license), but i only get overtaken on the motorway, cars just dont have the acceleration.

and warren, normally roundabouts have a sign going on showing you the exits, you just remember which exit to come off at, its not rocket science, its called counting.
