Fun with Best Buy and my Jornada

Postby Cameron » Jul 31, 2002 @ 4:49am

Yup the security guy at the front (who checks your purchases on the way out) at my store is really cool. He's always nice to people, and on top of that he wears this really bitchin Goofy hat. I wish I had one like it :-P .

Sealed screens

Postby Anon » Jul 31, 2002 @ 1:11pm

To get back on topic, Some of the early models (including mine) were made in a taiwan (or somewhere like that) factory that had problems with dust or something and didn't get sealed screens and have dust problems, there was something on pocketpcthoughts long ago addressing this issue and how hp would repair your device with a sealed screen. I should do that sometime, but i gotta wait til there's a recession in ppc apps/games coming out as to not miss anything.

What I hate about Best Buy, Staples, Circuit City, ect, is that the salesmen are annoying little bastards. When I bought my Compaq PC, two years ago, I had $1,200 dollars to spend, and not a penny more. But, when I told the salesman this, he instantly recommened a $1,500 PC to me! I explained again how I only had $1,200. Then he told me that he really does not recommend the PC I wanted to get. I said, look, all I have is $1,200 dollars and I wan't that $1,200 dollar PC, Ok? He then insulted my intelligence by asking me how much I knew of computers, and that he has two degrees in Computer Science! Finally after a half hour of his BS, I got my Compaq! Infact I still remember the fuckers name that he repeaded over and over, it was Christifer! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Customers are not always right.........

Postby Thinkingmandavid » Aug 1, 2002 @ 11:29am

Hello:)
I agree with you, the customer is not always right, the person who came up with this doesnt know what he is talking about. Maybe for that one time period it worked but not anymore. NOw things are different and teh customer doesnt know many times about their own product that they own.So they buy a service plan so best buy will help them, it is when best buy does crap about it that is frustrating for the customers. I have worked retail and have been on both sides of the fence, so yes it is tough on both sides. If both sides worked on themselves it wouldnt be sucha tough issue. Frankly, neither side cares to improve. The only way customer service improves is if management is forced to do and the issue is forced for better customer service whether the customer changes or not. But here again, at best buy, sales mamagers, inventory managers, merch managers and all the other managers, dont alwasy stand behind giving good customer service, that is the bottome line and I have seen it myself. I am not saying that the regular guy or gal behind the counter doesnt care, I am just saying it isnt consistent enough.

hehe I remember when best buy goofed and gave out coupons for a geforce 4 for like $150 on their website. So they scrapped the coupon thing but neglected to tell people that they wouldnt honor them. Well people began taking them to the store and were arrested after the store manager saw the coupon. They could have just told the people they dont accept the coupons anymore but they had them arrested. I'll find the article if i can.

They legally have to honor any coupon that they distribute. You should have gotten a copy of that coupon and bought one. If they don't let you then they're in the wrong which could result in a law suit against them. Of course a very small lawsuit consisting of about 20 minutes wherein you say "they distributed this coupon online and now will not honor it." the judge says "cool, but they have to *clinks the hammer*" and it's over. I did that at Toys R Us a real long time ago for some Playstation Memory Cards, but no lawsuit because they knew they were forced to honor the advertised coupon/price.

It wasn't a coupon, it was an online price. And Best Buy says they have the right to change the price anytime they want without honoring the old one, so when one guy came in, they wouldn't give him the card, he spoke with the manager, who called the cops and had him arrested for trespassing. Though the cops saw it was stupid and released him right away, it was still wrong. Now there's a class action suit against Best Buy, because all they did was give them a $50 gift certificate. Don't know the status of the case.
