Warren, I think you got the idea. Killing people is bad. As for hunting, well, that's an opinion-type thing. Poaching is bad, of course. Unless you like poached eggs...

Some people actually live on ranches and stuff and need to carry a gun to shoot animals to protect property and safety, so I guess that those people need guns. This is sort of like a car debate (except a car is not designed as a weapon, except big SUVs like my family's Ford Expedition ;)). I mean, not everyone absolutely needs a car or a gun, but a lot of people enjoy using them. Cars can kill just as easily as a gun can. Am I right? Cars are part of American culture, and guns are part of American heritage (and some subcultures in America). Both were important to the nation's economy and/or prestige. Without guns, there would be no America. That's a fact. It's also a fact that can't be changed, since it is history. Anyways...

I have heard of one at least one instance where a 5 year old kid has driven into a lake, for instance...

Besides, kids get killed or seriously wounded all the time because of getting hit by cars. It's a fact that many, many more kids get killed because of cars than guns. Of course, there are more cars than guns (I think), but I think that more kids get killed per car than per gun.

Hrmm. Gotta echo NYI's sentiments, here.

One of my favorite memories is the first time I shot an M16, it was an awesome experience. Like having a magnificent set of power tools, you really feel like you have the power to alter/control your environment.

That being said, I'm none-to-keen on hunting; I've learned plenty of respect for animals without having to off them.

And another favorite of mine--
Guns (are for pussies) by 311
<snip> ...
don't want to be unprepared
you're getting paranoid, and then guns are shared
you guys think that you're hard
but you're in fear of getting harmed
I fear no man and I'm unarmed
...

 They're tools, and like most tools, the more powerful the tool, the more that care, delicacy, and training should be exercised in their proper use.

What the fuck are you talking about, you're comparing guns to cars? Anything the potential to be a weapon. I could kill you with a fucking spoon, does that mean you can compare legal spoons to legal guns? Ethical spoons to ethical guns?

Newsflash, there: GUNS' ONLY PURPOSE IS TO KILL. That is what they are MADE for. Cars have a very moral purpose, very important purpose. Guns are used solely to kill, that is not a very important purpose. Heroin kills people, but then again, Pennicilin can be used to kill someone. Therefore, heroin is both legal and moral. Do you see your train of thought? And saying that a 5 year old drove a car into a lake and died is such a fucking lame comparison. Cars kill people via accidents. Guns require you to aim and pull the trigger, to think about it.

Guns are such shit, no one should really own a gun. There is absolutely no reason to own a gun unless you have some legitimate protective use for it or you're a hunter. Carrying guns will get you more shit than if you didn't have one.

"I think guns should be kept away from kids until they're of legal hunting age" no shit sherlock.

By the way that 311 song is sweet. That whole CD is good.

Him who won't, they drag.

the purpose of a gun is originally to kill or mame, but thats not all they are for now.
i live in england. over her the police don't have guns, handguns are totally illegal so only the army have them, and one or 2 police units.
as for shooting, its still quite a big sport, but not for killing. rabbit hunting is quite popular, and duck shoot, but more popular is shootibng clay pigeons. rifle shooting is also big, at targets.

as for comparing guns and cars, cars are the biggest killer i can think of aside cancer. In england every gun murder is in the papers, they're very infrequent.
Why?
