Have you ever driven stick, or do you even know how to? Knowing how, like from a video game, is a lot different from actually doing it, too. If you haven't then your opinion just went right out the window.
There are different needs for different people. Personally, I enjoy my manual car, it provides an unprecedented amount of control over any automatic that I've ever driven. If I want to pass someone I drop a gear and get around them in seconds instead of jamming on the gas hoping to get around them in time. I have complete control of torque, horsepower, and the acceleration of the car. Sure I can't talk on my cell phone when I'm driving in heavy-ish traffic, but I'm actually having FUN driving my car.
I agree, automatics are easier, but it all depends on what you do in your life and what you need out of a car. And gas mileage is not as even between auto. and man. as you might think. My car's automatic counterpart is rated, at its highest, below 33MPG. I get 38MPG on my manual. The automatic suffers also because you don't get the same kind of control over the car. If you're going around a turn you have to slow down and hope the car gets into a lower gear or you don't get nearly the same traction. I could take a turn that an automatic takes at 45 MPH going above 60MPH and have plenty of traction left over.
It all boils down to a preference and the necessities of the driver. My preference, at this point in my life, is manual.
