the big part of the test in nj is the road test...ooh scary.

not at all.

easy as dropping off a friggin log.

unfortunately, for grad. liscence, they just stamp somehting extra on your permit, and you have to keep that for 6 months.

it's also a pretty damn flimsy peice of paper.

and hey, whats wrong with automatics?!?!
manual's for guys who think they have small dicks (or inferiority complexes) so they can feel more manly. (kidding, mostly...)

because you need to race and all when you're FREAKING DRIVING TO THE BEACH OR GOING TO WORK OR SCHOOL, right?

plus, keeps a hand free, and automatics these days save just as much gas...and you dont need to use a clutch...blah blah blah.

they don't call it driving the stick for nothing...

Have you ever driven stick, or do you even know how to? Knowing how, like from a video game, is a lot different from actually doing it, too. If you haven't then your opinion just went right out the window.

There are different needs for different people. Personally, I enjoy my manual car, it provides an unprecedented amount of control over any automatic that I've ever driven. If I want to pass someone I drop a gear and get around them in seconds instead of jamming on the gas hoping to get around them in time. I have complete control of torque, horsepower, and the acceleration of the car. Sure I can't talk on my cell phone when I'm driving in heavy-ish traffic, but I'm actually having FUN driving my car.

I agree, automatics are easier, but it all depends on what you do in your life and what you need out of a car. And gas mileage is not as even between auto. and man. as you might think. My car's automatic counterpart is rated, at its highest, below 33MPG. I get 38MPG on my manual. The automatic suffers also because you don't get the same kind of control over the car. If you're going around a turn you have to slow down and hope the car gets into a lower gear or you don't get nearly the same traction. I could take a turn that an automatic takes at 45 MPH going above 60MPH and have plenty of traction left over.

It all boils down to a preference and the necessities of the driver. My preference, at this point in my life, is manual.

ah Ah AH!!! STOP CALLING CARS FARGING PENAL EXTENSIONS!!!! CAN'T THEY BE HOBBIES!!!! MY GOD!!! YOU JUST MIGHT AS WELL CALL A POCKET PC A PENAL EXTENSION!!!!!!

Automatics are for wusses. With manuals, you have full control of the car, whereas with an auto, push the gas, push the brake, push the gas, push the brake... Manuals are just funner. You think driving a stick is "manly"?? I know more girls that drive sticks than guys!!!! The guys are like "I'll get a manual car someday" and the girls are like "my parents make me drive a standard".

The driving test in Massachusetts lasts 2-5 minutes. You go straight up a street, turn left into this parking lot, then go backwards along a curb for 100 feet. That's it. Fail rate 2%.
